Frequently Asked Questions

1

When will my order ship?

We want you to be out riding your eBike as soon as possible, so we strive to ship all orders within two business days. Shipping times will vary depending on carrier and the destination in the U.S.   Shipping charges are $149 for a single bike and $199 for a tandem bike to a commercial address within the lower 48 States.  Where possible, we like to ship to a local bike shop near you that is Bosch certified.  If we can do this, we will arrange for them to assemble your bike and we will pay the cost of assembly.

2

What are my payment options?

We currently use PayPal for ebike purchases. PayPal allows you to use your credit card, or their credit line option which breaks your total into smaller payments. If you want to pay using another method, please get in touch with us.

3

Do you offer financing?

We work with PayPal to offer their credit line option. With this option, you can purchase your eBike today and have 6 months to pay, with no interest! You can apply and receive a decision in seconds. Apply with PayPal.

4

What is your warranty policy?

Each of our Gepida eBikes comes with a 2-year drive system warranty and a lifetime frame warranty that protects you against frame defects. This frame warranty covers the original owner and is non-transferable.

5

What is your return policy?

Our return policy is that a bike can be returned within 7 days for a full refund.  It must be in as-new condition, complete and carefully packaged, and you pay the return freight.  A bike can be returned within 30 days, in as-new condition, complete and carefully packaged, and the full purchase price will be applied to another bike.

6

What is a pedelec?

6

Pedelecs are "Pedal Electric" bikes, where the assist from the electric motor is added to what you are doing.  As you pedal, a motor inside the crank bottom bracket responds to the force you apply, and helps you go.  When you stop pedaling it stops assisting.  Intelligent sensors measure your work 1000 or more times per second and tell the motor how much additional power to give.  The system is so smooth that you hardly know it is there.  You just feel like you are having a great day and could take your bike anywhere!

7

Is an eBike better than a regular bike?

7

"Better" is a subjective term, but every person we have seen ride an eBike for the first time has come back with a smile on their face.  They are first and foremost, fun!  In addition they allow flexibility for changing conditions, so that you can deal with the challenges of hills, headwinds, heavy loads, riding companions who maintain a blistering pace, a sudden urge to  go further and see more, and so forth.  The words"fun" and "flexible" describe the eBike experience.

8

How long does it take to charge a battery?

How many charges can you get?

With a standard 4-amp charger it takes about one hour per 120 watt-hours of battery capacity.  For example, a 400 Wh battery takes 3 1/2 hours to charge.  A 500 Wh battery takes just over 4 hours to charge.

The battery has a warranty for 2 years of use.  If you are a power commuter and ride 5 days a week and charge the battery for both the outbound and inbound trips, you will do 10 charges per week, or 500 per year.  That is 1000 charges in 2 years.  We have heard that the battery will hold only 80% of the original charge after 1000 charges.  Bosch builds a high quality battery with an exceptional battery management system, which is the key to longevity.

9

What cleaning and maintenance does the pedelec require?

Care for your ebike as you would any quality bicycle.  Maintain the bicycle components by cleaning, lubricating and adjusting them as needed.  Care for the drive system by cleaning it with water and mild detergent.  Spraying with a hose is fine.  Spraying with a pressure washer can force water into the drive system and is not advised.

Storage for winter or extended periods of time should follow the guidelines provided by Bosch.  Controllers such as the Intuvia should be charged every 90 days through their USB port.  It is best to store the battery at room temperature, avoiding extremely cold or hot conditions and store it at between 40% to 80% of full charge.

10

What makes pedelecs so environmentally friendly and cost-effective?

As pedelecs use rechargeable batteries instead of fossil fuels, they are extremely environmentally friendly and efficient. Costing less than $.01 per mile, Pedelecs are the most economical form of mechanically powered mobility.

11

Where can I charge my battery?

Almost anywhere!  The Bosch charger will automatically adjust for any voltage between 100V and 240V and either 50 Hz or 60 Hz.  If the plug fits, plug it in and the charger will make it happen.  If you have your bike in a foreign country you may need an adapter to fit the shape of local power sockets.

The battery takes approximately four hours for a full charge.  A 400 Wh battery and a drive in Eco mode will go 30 to 60 miles, depending on riding conditions.  Similarly, a 500 Wh battery in Eco mode will go 40 to 80 miles.

Factors effecting the range of a full battery include the weight of the rider, cycling style such as pedaling cadence, the frequency of stops and starts, tire pressure, the power mode selected and weather factors such as headwinds.
